BIO stands for "Biotechnology Industry Organization," a trade association that represents hundreds of biotechnology companies and institutions around the world. The four main sections of BIO are Emerging Companies, Food and Agriculture, Health, and Industrial and Environmental.
BIO's primary tasks are advocacy, networking and education. They work to create jobs in the biotechnology industry, host conventions and publish newsletters. BIO focuses much of its work in health care and pharmaceuticals, and publishes materials for legislative and innovative purposes. BIO also offers services to its clients, such as analysis, reports, backgrounds, cost savings and business solutions. BIO is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
