Where is the bladder located?

The bladder is a muscular sac located in the pelvis, slightly above the pubic bone, according to WebMD. It is connected to the kidneys by two tubes known as ureters and rids the body of urine through the urethra.

The bladder, when empty, is approximately the same size as a pear and can typically hold between 400 and 600 milliliters of urine. It is lined by muscle tissue, which expands when it becomes filled with urine. Urine trickles down from the kidneys and into the bladder before being excreted through the urethra. During urination, the bladder muscles contract, which allows two sphincters to let urine flow out.
