What is a blood red parrot cichlid?

The red parrot is a crossbreed of different Central American cichlids. The species has a round body and beak-shaped nose. Younger specimens are darker in color, and mature fish range from orange to red.

The coloration and exotic appearance of the red parrot cichlid make it a popular aquarium pet. It can reach lengths up to 8 inches in captivity, so aquariums should be at least 50 gallons in size with a sandy bottom and plenty of hiding places. While peaceful with most fish of similar size, the red parrot may become timid or bullied by other cichlids. A diet of freeze-dried blood worms, ocean plankton, flake food and cichlid pellets is recommended.
