What is a Blue Acara cichlid?

A Blue Acara cichlid is a type of tropical fish that populates parts of Central and South America. It is characteristically oval in shape, as are most fish in the cichlid family, and is generally steel-blue and gray. It is omnivorous, but its diet should be heavy in protein.

Blue Acaras are generally very hardy fish that require an aquarium that is 30 gallons or larger and filled with water that is between 72 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. They are generally calm-tempered fish that can get along well with other fish of a similar size. They may bully smaller fish if given the chance, however, especially during breeding time.
