A cobalt blue cichlid is a brilliant-blue colored fish that is endemic to the Nkhata Bay of Lake Malawi in Africa. Humans have introduced these small fish in other locations. The bright color makes these fish popular with aquarium owners.

Cobalt blue cichlids have the scientific name Maylandia callainos and go by several common names, including cobalt blue zebras and cobalt blue mbuna. The fish grow up to 5 inches in length and are aggressive in the aquarium, but are compatible with several other species of aquarium fish. The cichlids prefer a water temperature of 81 degrees Fahrenheit and a pH of 8.1. The female lays eggs and broods the offspring in her mouth.
