Boxing Day in Canada falls on December 26 every year and has its origins in the feudal times in the United Kingdom. Manor lords would give boxes of practical goods to the people who worked his land the day after Christmas as payment for the past year's work.
Boxing Day is also celebrated in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries. As of 2014, Boxing Day is also used to hold sporting events, such as the International Ice Hockey Federation world junior hockey championships and the Spengler Cup tournament in Switzerland. Boxing Day is not observed in all regions in Canada; it is not an official holiday in Quebec.
