BP stands for British Petroleum. It is an international oil and gas company that produces fuel for transportation and energy; provides lubricants for engines; and manufactures petrochemical products used in products, such as paint, clothes and packaging.
BP operations are located in nearly 80 countries across the world with over 17,000 retail locations. It has over 84,000 employees and creates an estimated $360 billion in economic value. The company produces approximately 3 million barrels of oil per day from over 17 billion barrels of oil equivalent reserves.
BP was founded in 1908 as the Anglo-Persian Oil Company. It has since undergone several name changes and is officially known as BP plc, as of 2015.
