Bromeliads belong to a plant family called Bromeliaceae, which is comprised of over 3,000 species in 56 genera. Bromeliads share several characteristics, including the presence of scales on their leaves, known as trichomes. They also all have a spiral arrangement of leaves, known as a rosette.
Bromeliads are almost exclusively located in the tropics. Well-known bromeliads include pineapples, Spanish Moss, aloe and yucca. They are easy to grow and require very little care. Despite the minimal amount of care required, they usually provide brilliant blooms and luscious foliage. Bromeliads come in a wide variety of sizes and can be grown both indoors and outdoors.
