Who built the White House?

According to the White House's official website, Irish-born architect James Hoban oversaw the original construction of the building in 1792 to 1800. Hoban also oversaw rebuilding efforts after the War of 1812.
According to the White House's Office of the Curator, the site for the White House was chosen by George Washington in 1791. James Hoban, an Irish-born architect, won a competition with his design, and oversaw initial construction.
John Adams and his wife Abigail moved into the building in 1800. In 1814, during the War of 1812, the British set fire to the White House. Hoban was appointed to oversee rebuilding efforts, and President James Monroe was able to move into the House in 1817.
