It is possible to be allergic to some vitamins. A vitamin allergy may result in skin inflammation or rashes, headaches, hardening of the arteries, kidney stones, stomach problems or other symptoms.
Each vitamin is associated with different possible allergic reactions. For example, Vitamin B12 may cause respiratory problems, while Vitamin D may cause hives. Some common side effects of taking a multivitamin are nausea, headaches and skin irritation, but they are not the result of an allergy.
A person with a high number of food allergies is more likely to be allergic to vitamins, and an allergy to vitamins can develop over time.
