Can babies eat eggs?

Since egg whites are a common allergen, most pediatricians don't recommend feeding babies egg whites until they are a year old. Egg yolks, however, may be fed to babies once they reach 8 months old as long as there is no known family history of egg allergies.
According to the Momstatic Wholesome Baby Food website, studies have indicated that children who have an egg allergy usually outgrow it by the time they are 5 years old. When feeding eggs to babies, the eggs can be poached, boiled, scrambled or fried. Eggs are a significant source of protein, and are also rich in lutein, a carotenoid vitamin that is beneficial for eye health and may prevent cataracts.
