John and Oliver McClary started the McClary Manufacturing Company in 1847. They started by selling pots and pans door to door but progressed to manufacturing furnaces and stoves. By Canadian Confederation, their stoves were famous across Canada. In 1927, McClary Manufacturing joined with five other companies to form General Steel Wares of Canada. McClary stoves are still a prized find for collectors looking to honor the early era of decorative stove manufacture.
