Can cats cry?

Cats can cry, but they cry to remedy irritations of the eye and not as emotional response to a situation. Allergies and clogged tear ducts often cause cats to cry.

Cats possess basic emotions similar to humans. These include happiness, anger, depression, excitability and playfulness. The gray matter of a cat's brain displays some similarities to that of a human's. Unsatisfied cats often engage in bad behavior to express their displeasure. Cats often act out by using the litter box incorrectly or clawing property. Cats are so emotionally developed that they can often correctly read the emotions of their owners.
