As of 2015, the combined use and sales tax rate is 4 percent statewide, coupled with any local tax rate imposed by the municipality or school district, according to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. Additionally, a sales tax rate of 0.375 percent applies to taxable sales within the metropolitan commuter transportation district. Rates vary in each county depending upon the cities that impose tax. There is no sales tax on items delivered outside of New York state.
