The Chinese calendar method is no more reliable than flipping a coin when it comes to predicting a child's gender, according to What to Expect. A review of 3 million Swedish birth records revealed the Chinese calendar method to be only 50 percent accurate.

What to Expect states that the Chinese calendar prediction method involves taking the age of the prospective mother along with the month in which the child is conceived and converting these numbers to dates on the Chinese lunar calendar. The dates are put into a chart which is meant to indicate whether a boy or a girl is expected.
