A certified rehabilitation counselor helps people with disabilities achieve success in many areas of their lives. These types of counselors work with clients that have a wide range of disabilities, including mobility impairment, mental illness, traumatic brain injury, and drug and alcohol abuse. Because of the scope of this position, counselors are required to have a masters degree in rehabilitation counseling or closely related field before becoming a certified counselor. Eligibility requirements are established by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification, and requirements vary from state to state.
