Dogs can eat almonds, unlike other nuts that can be poisonous to dogs. However, almonds have a high fat content and if dogs eat large portions of fatty foods on a regular basis, they can become at-risk for pancreatitis.
According to The Daily Puppy, small portions of almonds are harmless to dogs, but large amounts can have medical consequences. Pancreatitis is an inflammatory condition that causes digestive problems like diarrhea. Sodium can also cause ion toxicity in pets, so The Daily Puppy suggests only feeding unsalted almonds to dogs. When used in moderation, the ASPCA states that unsalted almonds can be a nutritious treat for any dog.
