Can dogs eat carrots?

Dogs can eat carrots. However, dogs cannot metabolize whole carrots due to the cellulose that surrounds each cell of the carrot. Carrots are an ideal treat for dogs because they are rich in vitamin A and fiber, and low in calories.
The easiest way to feed carrots to dogs is by giving them a carrot puree, or cooking and mashing up baby carrots. While carrots are beneficial to a dog's diet, they do contain higher amounts of sugar than other vegetables and should only be given to dogs in moderation. Generally, it is best to only give dogs carrots a few times a week.
