Horses can eat carrots. Many horse owners enjoy giving their horses carrots because they are a healthy and tasty treat. Treats should always be fed in moderation, writes veterinarian Dr. Nancy Loving.
Too many treats of any kind can lead to obesity and a disrespectful horse. Horses should be fed a diet that is based on grass and hay. Grains, apples, cookies, peppermints, trail mix and carrots are all things that horses can eat as treats, but that should not be a permanent part of their daily diet. It is recommended that treats are fed in buckets so that horses do not become insistent and try to grab treats from owner's hands or pockets, which could lead to serious physical injuries.
