Can dogs eat beans?

Dogs can eat cooked beans, but only in limited portions. Certain raw beans, such as red kidney beans, can contain harmful toxins that can cause health issues for dogs.
Some of the health benefits of feeding cooked beans to dogs include lower cholesterol levels, the prevention of constipation and regulated sugar levels in the blood. Beans are high in protein, but the protein levels in beans are not enough to sustain the natural energy levels of a dog. Eating cooked beans can cause oral problems such as cavities and gum problems when a dog eats them on a regular basis.
