Coastal bottlenose dolphins that live in warm waters stay within their limited home range in the winter months and can be seen off the coast of Georgia, Florida, Texas and Southern California. Dolphins migrate with changes in water temperature and fish movement.

Coastal bottlenose dolphins have adapted to warm, shallow waters. Viewers can find them in harbors, bays, lagoons and estuaries. Dolphins live in the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans as well as in the Mediterranean, the Black Sea and the Red Sea. They are most often found in temperate and tropical waters with surface temperatures between 50 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. In warm years, viewers have seen coastal bottlenose dolphins as far north as Monterey, California.
