Can you drive with a permit?

As of 2015, in most states, you can drive with a permit as long as there is another licensed driver in the car. The licensed driver must be a family member over 21 years old, a driving instructor or a driver over 25 years old with written parental permission.
In order to receive your learner's permit, most states require a written test. Additionally, some require completion of driver's education courses prior to receiving the permit. Once you have obtained the permit, there are additional restrictions on your driving that can include restrictions on the number of passengers and limitations on night driving.
