Those within three months of retirement age can enroll online for Medicare benefits at the official Social Security website. Signing up for Medicare part B requires filling out form CMS 40-B, and then mailing it in or taking it to the local Social Security office.
Individuals within the United States and Puerto Rico already getting Social Security of Railroad Board Benefits are automatically enrolled in Medicare part A and B within three months of their 65th birthdays. Those under 65 with a disability and those suffering from ALS are automatically enrolled in Medicare part A and B after the 25th month of disability.
