For normal storage, flour should be placed in an airtight container in an area where the temperature remains 75 degrees Fahrenheit or cooler. Eating Well states that whole-wheat flour tends to go rancid more quickly. Therefore, it should be stored in either the refrigerator or the freezer. Flour should not be stored next to any food with a strong odor, as it may pick up that flavor.
