Where can you find the meaning of a phrase?

Websites such as Phrases.org.uk and The Free Dictionary.com and books such as “The Cambridge International Dictionary of Idioms” often help explain the meaning of a phrase. These sources are helpful for deciphering idioms, or phrases whose meaning cannot be determined by the definitions of the individual words they contain.

Idioms add color to a language but often cause confusion, even among speakers of the same language. For example, many Americans are unfamiliar with the British description of a happy couple as “getting on like houses” or being “right as rain.” Similarly, the American idiom "the proof is in the pudding" is unfamiliar to many citizens of the United Kingdom.
