Can PVC be recycled?

PVC plastic can be recycled into nearly 100 new PVC products, including packaging, pipe, siding, floor tiles, notebook covers and traffic cones. PVC plastic is identified by the number 3 inside the arrow triangle recycling symbol.
PVC, often known simply as vinyl, is composed of chlorine and ethylene with additives that soften the brittle PVC into a malleable form. It is a versatile plastic that can be flexible, rigid or semi-liquid; clear or colored; and thick or thin. Rigid products include bottles, food packages, siding and windows. Synthetic leather, medical tubing and film and sheet plastic are some examples of flexible vinyl products.
