Low-income car owners in California can receive up to $500 worth of smog check diagnosis and repair for free by applying to the state's Consumer Assistance Program repair assistance program. Low-income car owners may be eligible for the program if they are not registering their vehicles for the first time and if they are up to date on their car registrations. The program applies to cars, trucks, vans and motorhomes.
