According to the CDC, syphilis is curable if it is properly diagnosed during its primary or secondary stages. No over-the-counter or home remedies exist to treat syphilis, but a standard course of antibiotics generally eliminates the bacteria responsible for the disease.

Proper diagnosis is the key to successful treatment of syphilis. According to the CDC, this is sometimes difficult because the early symptoms of the disease often resemble the symptoms of many other illnesses. Late-stage syphilis is very serious and sometimes fatal, and no antibiotic treatment is able to undo the damage a persistent syphilis infection causes prior to diagnosis.
