Can you transplant bamboo?

Transplanting bamboo is possible, although difficult, according to the American Bamboo Society. To transplant, first make sure the bamboo is not in active shoots. Dig up a large portion of the root ball either in very early spring or in the late fall to avoid the bamboo's active season.
After the bamboo root ball is up, use a saw or a very sharp shovel and separate the rest of the grove from the roots. Water the roots and the leaves and wrap in plastic to transport to the new location. It needs to be replanted immediately for the best results.
