When can you transplant hostas?

The best time to transplant hostas is in the spring, as the growing tips of the plants start to emerge from the ground. Hostas may be transplanted later in the spring and even into the summer, but the plants may show more damage and will require extra attention.

Coming in many different varieties and colors, hostas are one of the most popular perennials in the northern part of the United States. Most hostas prefer shade or partial shade, and some varieties will change color depending on the intensity of light exposure. Brown, scorched leaf surfaces or tips are symptoms of sun damage in a hosta.
