When can I transplant lily bulbs?

Lily bulbs should be transplanted in late fall after the foliage has died. The bulbs are roots that store nutrients for the next season's blooms.
Lilies have two main types: tropical and hardy. Tropical lilies bloom in bright colors and are annuals in cold climates. They bloom either during the day or at night. Hardy lilies are perennials that bloom from May through September until the cold weather kills their foliage.
Lilies grow in a trumpet shape and have petals that curl outwards and droop. They require well-drained soil and full sun to grow best. Lilies should be watered often.
