Despite its acidity, apple cider vinegar is a common home remedy for persons suffering from acid reflux. However, the effectiveness of apple cider vinegar is not backed by any official medical research, explains Reflux MD.
The recommendation is to mix 1 teaspoon with 8 ounces water; honey may be added to the mixture if it is still too strong, states Reflux MD. The remedy is most effective when taken prior to meals and at the onset of heartburn. Apple cider vinegar may negatively interact with diuretics, laxatives, heart disease medication and diabetes drugs and may worsen some ulcers, according to Reflux MD.
