Rub clothing with mineral spirits to remove wood stain. This process requires a clean, white cloth, mineral spirits and laundry detergent. Complete removal of the stain should take less than an hour.
- Examine the stain
Examine the stained area to see how far the stain has penetrated through the fibers. If the stain goes all the way through, consider disposing of the clothing. Stain removal may not be possible. The stain may also be difficult to remove if it covers a large area. If the stain is small and superficial, continue with the removal process.
- Dampen a cloth with mineral spirits
Wet the corner of a clean, white cloth with mineral spirits.
- Rub the stained area
Apply the mineral spirits to the stained area, rubbing in a circular motion from the center of the stain. This transfers the stain to the white cloth. Change to a clean area of the cloth to prevent transferring the stain back to the garment, refreshing the cloth with mineral spirits as needed.
- Launder the garment
Rinse the garment and launder as usual. Once the clothing is removed from the wash, inspect for any remaining stains. Repeat the stain removal process if necessary before placing the clothing in the dryer.
