To remove wood stain from wood, apply varnish remover to the wood to soften the finish so that it can be scraped away. If the wood stain is present after the first coat, apply a second coat.
Apply the varnish remover
Paint varnish remover, also known as stripper, thickly and evenly onto the wood.
Allow the stripper to work
When the stripper has done its job, the finish is easy to scrape away. A small area should be tested to see if it needs more time.
Scrape the finish off
Remove the finish with a scraper. If there are a few patchy areas, use steel to remove the wood stain in these spots.
