A Canadian cherry tree, also known as the chokecherry tree or Canada red cherry tree, is a small ornamental tree that produces oval leaves and small bitter fruit that ranges in color from red to black.
Canadian cherry trees are native to North America and grow to a maximum height of 16 feet. They are very hardy trees that tolerate a wide range of environmental conditions and can survive in temperatures as low as -40 degrees Fahrenheit. In the autumn, leaves turn a deep maroon color. Chokecherries can be eaten from the trees by humans and are often used in jams, jellies and syrups. The chokecherry fruit also makes excellent bird food.
