What is the capital of Bahrain?

The capital city of Bahrain is Manama, sometimes rendered as "al Manama." Manama is also Bahrain's largest city, with a population of just over 150,000, and is home to 10 percent of the kingdom's population. Manama, like the rest of Bahrain, has a hot, arid climate.

Until 1921, Bahrain's capital was established in the defensible city of Muharraq. With independence, and the oil wealth that came with it, Manama became a financial trading hub and the site of Bahrain's economic policy of diversification. The city quickly developed a thriving banking and financial services industry and a diverse population as immigrants moved to the city.
