What is the capital of Delaware?

As of 2014, the capital of Delaware is the city of Dover. Before Dover was the capital, the city of New Castle was the capital of Delaware.

New Castle was a part of an area known as the Lower Three Counties, making it the capital of Delaware before Delaware was even a state. This area, once part of Pennsylvania, officially became a part of Delaware in 1776. In 1777, one year after Delaware became the first state to be established, the capital was moved from New Castle to Dover. Because of its status as the first state to be established, Delaware has earned the official nickname of "The First State."
