The capital of Hawaii is Honolulu. Honolulu is located on the island of Oahu and is the largest city in the state, as well as a major tourist destination.
Honolulu has been the capital of Hawaii since 1845, and in Hawaiian, the name means "sheltered harbor" or "calm port." There is evidence of settlements on Honolulu as early as the 11th century. According to the 2010 Census, the population of Honolulu was 390,738, with a population of 953,207 living in the metropolitan area. Honolulu is home to Pearl Harbor, which was infamously attacked by the Japanese on Dec. 7, 1941.
