The capital of Wyoming is Cheyenne, which is located in the south-easternmost county in the state, Laramie County. It is the most-populous city in Wyoming.
Cheyenne was founded in 1867 in what was then called Dakota Territory. It grew rapidly with the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad and the establishment of Fort D. A. Russell, later known as Francis E. Warren Air Force Base. The city covers an area of 24.63 square miles, with a population of 59,466 as of the 2010 Census, up from 11,320 in the 1910 Census. Notable landmarks in the city include the Wyoming State Capitol, Union Pacific Depot and Nagle Warren Mansion.
