A person is often referred to a cardiovascular physician, also known as a "cardiologist" by their regular doctor if a problem is suspected. A cardiologist is trained to administer and read specific tests related to the heart and vascular system. They can also prescribe medication. Some cardiologists also specialize in certain areas such as pediatrics who treat children. Cardiovascular surgeons perform surgery related to the heart and vascular system.
