Vascular calcification is a strong indication of future heart attack or stroke.

Vascular calcification is a biologically regulated and mediated process similar to bone formation, according to Front Endocrinol. Vascular calcification of the large arteries, including those that run through the legs, can be triggered by long term build up of fatty deposits in the arteries. This is the most common form of vascular calcification and can develop in individuals as young as 20.
