Cashew nut trees grow in areas with tropical climates, notes the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension. The trees were first found in the dry-forest, savannah-woodland region of northeastern Brazil.
The cashew tree now grows worldwide in tropical regions including East Africa, Australia and India. Cashews also grow in North America's tropical regions, such as Florida, though homeowners are warned against handling or burning the fruit or any part of the tree due to its caustic nature.
To plant cashew trees, choose a non-flooding area in full sun away from buildings, electric lines and other trees. Wear gloves and handle young cashew trees gently to avoid damaging them.
