Do cherries grow on trees or bushes?

Cherries grow on trees that are as well-known for their fruit as they are for their beauty when in bloom. Both sweet and tart cherry trees are easy to care for and grow in backyards throughout the United States.
Of the two varieties, tart cherry trees are more tolerant of harsh winter weather and can still bear fruit when planted alone. Sweet cherry trees, on the other hand, have a preference for dry, mild climates and require at least two compatible trees be planted together for pollination and fruiting. Additionally, sweet cherry trees tend to grow larger, sometimes reaching 30 feet in height.
