When was "Castle" cancelled?

As of 2015, the ABC TV show "Castle" is officially renewed for an eighth season. Both of the show's leads, Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic, have signed on to return.
The procedural drama was considered to be on the bubble for cancellation, according to Variety. Although the show has been renewed, former producer and writer Terence Paul Winter replaces executive producer David Amann.
One reason for the show's delayed renewal is the wait for the show's leads to agree to new contracts. Although Nathan Fillion agreed to continue his role into the new season in April 2015, Stana Katic did not officially sign on for the eighth season until May 2015.
