Why do cats like bleach?

Some cats seem to have a strong attraction to the smell of bleach, but pet experts do not understand why these animals have this reaction. It is similar to a catnip response of purring, rubbing and drooling.

Although the reason behind cats' love of bleach is a mystery, it is known that the animals have an excellent sense of smell. The part of the brain that handles odors is proportionally much larger in cats than in humans. Although the mild scent of bleach does not harm them, cats should not lick surfaces that have bleach residue. Bleach is an irritant to mucous membranes and the esophagus, so vomiting or abdominal pain sometimes occurs after ingestion.
