People experience toe numbness in the big toe that subsides quickly after high-impact exercising such as playing a sport or running, explains Healthline. Numbness in the big toe could also indicate a medical condition such as diabetes or diabetic neuropathy, shingles, sciatica, multiple sclerosis, or a herniated disk.
A big toe that is numb could indicate serious conditions such as peripheral arterial disease, peripheral vascular disease, Raynaud's disease, a spinal cord injury or Guillain-Barre syndrome, according to Healthline. People exposed to extreme cold temperatures may experience numbness in the big toe due to frostbite. Inflammation of the blood vessels can also cause the big toe to feel numb.
