Is CCI4 polar?
By Forinfos - 16/12/2025 - 0 comments
Carbon tetrachloride, or CC14, is a non-polar molecule. Because it is a non-polar substance, its atoms all share bonds equally. In the carbon tetrachloride molecule, a central carbon atom shares single covalent bonds with four chlorine atoms. Due to its symmetry, carbon tetrachloride is considered a molecule with tetrahedral geometry.
The bond angle between each atom of chlorine is approximately 109.5 degrees. Carbon tetrachloride is an achiral molecule, meaning its mirror image and original image are the same. This molecule is also considered a crystal, and its crystalline lattice structure is monoclinic, meaning that the vectors of the crystal are of unequal lengths.
