Weight gain is an extremely rare side effect of Celexa, and while it does happen, it should not be expected for most patients, according to WebMD. Weight loss is a much more common side effect than weight gain for Celexa.
Celexa is an antidepressant that targets the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, and is normally used to treat depression. Although Celexa can be prescribed for young adults as well, it should not be taken by pregnant women or any women who are breastfeeding. Common side effects associated with this type of prescription medication include erectile dysfunction, diarrhea, drowsiness, dry mouth, excessive sweating and involuntary quivering.
