Cervical Spondylosis is a term used to describe abnormal wear and tear that occurs on the spinal disks of the neck. This condition usually occurs as a person ages, and it is the common cause of chronic pain in the neck.

Discs and other cartilages experience degeneration leading to the growth of osteophytes on the bones. Some of the symptoms of cervical spondylosis include neck stiffness, grinding noise when turning the neck, weakness and pain in the shoulder. Treatment depends on the symptoms and severity of an individual's condition, as stated by Mayo Clinic. The doctor may recommend the use of narcotics, muscle relaxants, steroid injections and anti-seizure drugs.
