The United States Legislative Branch is comprised of the two entities of Congress: the House of Representatives and the Senate. The leaders of each entity are the House Speaker and the vice president, respectively.
Both the House and the Senate also have a leader from each political party: a majority and minority leader. The vice president of the United States is considered the president of the Senate. The House and the Senate also appoint numerous assistant leadership positions, such as majority and minority whips. There are 435 representatives in the House and 100 senators, representing all 50 states. Their positions are elected by popular votes, while leaders are elected or appointed internally.
